The Deputy House Manager is expected to manage a large number of staff to ensure the day-to-day running of a premier private estate. The Deputy House Manager is expected to work with the other members of the management team to deliver the highest levels of service to the Principals. The role is hands on and the expectation is to lead by example if appropriate to the situation. The Deputy House Manager will be a member of the management team on the estate reporting directly to the House Manager and Head of Estates, and expected to have extensive experience in the following areas:

  • Management of a full house team to the highest level of personal service to the Principals
  • Resource Management planning to include events and private functions
  • Agree purchases with other departments, and agree delivery times and liaise with security on delivery access
  • Constantly review housekeeping standards and future materials that may be used in conjunction with environmental concerns
  • Spa management including sauna, steam room and pool in conjunction with the Facilities Manager and Facilities team
  • Attend estate management meetings and share best practice with the team
  • Work in partnership with the Facilities Manager and Facilities team to ensure house performance is flawless
  • Purchase personal items occasionally for Principals
  • Good understanding of working with state of the art systems
  • Laundry management and linen inventory
  • Ensure that all staff are performance managed and regular reviews identify areas such as personal and professional development
  • Care and maintenance of high end items such as clothes and jewellery
  • Staff continuation training and personal development
  • Excellent team building skills
  • Develop a standards and cleaning regime manual / standard of procedures for staff to follow detailing products used on different finishes
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Deal with any security issues and escalate to the Head of Estates in all instances
  • Stock control and financial management
  • Develop and control staff rosters, time management, hire temporary staff and deal with basic HR issues in conjunction with the HR Manager
  • Circulate throughout all service areas, bars, spa and rooms to ensure all service standards and operational flows are well maintained but never intrude the privacy of the Principals, their Family and Guests
  • Ensure Health and Safety guidelines are followed and staff are trained and aware of their responsibilities
  • Carry out any additional tasks requested by the Principals, their Family, Guests or other members of the management team.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The Deputy House Manager is expected to have worked at the highest level of service either within the hotel industry or private house for UHNWI. The Deputy House Manager is expected to work in partnership with the other members of the management team to deliver the highest level of service, cleanliness and house performance. It is expected that the Deputy House Manager will train, support and enhance the knowledge and skills of their team, to help develop the staff and encourage them to deliver even higher standards. Qualifications such as diplomas, NVQ’s, SVQ’s or hospitality management qualifications are preferable.

  • IT literate to include Excel
  • Performance Management and Training experience
  • Health & Safety qualifications, NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent
  • Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Additional languages


  • 40-50 hours per week (8 hours per day when the family are not in residence, up to 10 hours per day when they are in residence)
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

Salary: £48,000-£55,000 gross per annum
