A large private Estate in Surrey is looking to employ a full-time experienced Seamstress / Laundress and Wardrobe Manager to run their laundry department.

General

As Head Laundress you assume full charge of household laundry, washing and ironing of clothes and linens, arranging the dry-cleaning as well as doing repairs and alterations as required/requested.  You will also be responsible for the wardrobe management for the family.  You will be highly skilled with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

Duties

  • Maintaining an up-to-date garment and linen inventory
  • Wardrobe management of all the wardrobes on the estate and for the family
  • Seasonal organisation and storing of clothing
  • Washing (hand-washing – when needed), drying, steaming, ironing all clothing and linens for the houses and family
  • Ensuring all clothes and linens are clean and washed in a manner which will preserve colour, fabric, and avoid contamination and spreading of bacteria
  • Maintaining an accurate log of all items sent off site for repair/dry-cleaning
  • Making alterations or repairs to all types of clothing - ensuring this is done to the client’s standards
  • Keeping an inventory of all wearable items and the seasonal wardrobes, preparing them for proper storage when required
  • Assisting with packing and unpacking ensuring a proper log is maintained to ensure all items are returned from travelling
  • Steam ironing
  • Maintaining laundry room and cleaning equipment (washing machines, tumble dryers, irons etc)
  • Managing stock and supplies related to laundry (washing products, equipment etc)
  • Managing subcontractors related to laundering and upkeep (such as external dry-cleaning services, equipment repair workers etc)
  • Maintaining the client's footwear (polishing, cleaning, managing repairs)
  • Provide a valet service if required
  • Ensure the Laundries are always clean, tidy and ready for use
  • Requesting any maintenance required to the laundry equipment to ensure that it is kept to the highest standard
  • Report any issues found with the laundry and/or its equipment so that faults and issues can be dealt with in a timely manner

Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within a similar role working as a Laundress / Wardrobe Manager in a private house
  • Knowledge of a wide range of textiles and their specific care instructions
  • Exceptional skills in ironing, washing and handling of all fabrics 
  • Exceptional Seamstress skills
  • Ability to follow and execute specific oral and written instructions
  • Ability to ensure the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximise efficiency and effectiveness
  • Good organisational skills
  • Able to maintain and oversee a team, as well as work independently
  • Flexibility, politeness
  • Able to travel during the summer months on a rotational basis to provide the family support when abroad

Package

  • Salary for this role is between £38,000-£42,000 pa depending on qualifications and experience
  • Working 0830 to 1700 Monday to Friday with a 1 hour lunch break
  • Annual leave is 28 days per year with no entitlement to public holidays

Requirements

  • Able to get to work and/or live within 40 minutes travel time to the Estate
  • Able to travel abroad for up to 8 weeks per year travelling to the client's holiday home
  • Have a good command of written and spoken English as a minimum
  • Have a positive and happy demeanour
  • Ability to take direction as well as lead your department as needed

Salary:  depending on experience - £38K - £42K per annum
