We are looking for a Live-out Housekeeper with solid private household experience for a large, multi-storey residence in Chelsea. You will be working both alone and alongside other members of staff so it is essential that you can work well as part of a professional team as well as using your own initiative. Formally, you will report to the EA, but day-to-day work will be overseen by the Butler/House Manager.

The principal is in residence roughly 70% of the time, and during the periods they are you will need to be flexible with occasional weekends required, although you will receive time off in lieu for this when the principal is away. Hours are rarely more than 08.30-17.30.

You will have excellent housekeeping skills and be responsible for maintaining the household, as well as laundry and ironing. You will be confident working with a high-end wardrobe, taking great care with delicate fabrics. You will have experience in caring for works of art and fine fittings and fixtures. You will be responsible for maintaining the stock level of household cleaning supplies and letting the House Manager know when stocks run low.

Duties will include:

  • Cleaning the property to an immaculate standard
  • Hoovering, polishing, dusting, doing the laundry and washing delicate garments by hand
  • Ironing, putting the rubbish out on designated days, cleaning brass surfaces, washing
  • Arranging dry cleaning and for carrying out the washing and ironing of the principal’s clothes; packing and unpacking
  • Cleaning and/or polishing the principal’s shoes as appropriate
  • Changing and making beds
  • Supervising contractors or visitors for personal appointments whilst in the property, e.g. masseur, facialist etc.
  • Buying and collecting shopping, or putting away online deliveries and keeping fridge stocked
  • Helping the Butler/Chef to serve meals or set up the table as required for special occasions
  • Animal care – cleaning rabbit cage once a week and changing food/water regularly. Feeding dog, but not walking
  • Working as a team with the other house staff – Butler/Cook/Driver and part-time Chef
  • Confident in their work and can get on independently and discreetly
  • Good level of English preferred. Other languages welcome in addition

The principal is an excellent employer, and values discretion, professionalism and flexibility.

Days of work: 5 per week from Monday - Friday, with a commitment to work up to 10 weekends a year when the principal is in residence (one per month on average) for which time off in lieu is given

Hours of work: 8.30am – 5.30pm

Other notes: Small, friendly dog and rabbit in the home; small child in the home, but no childcare duties expected of the Housekeeper whatsoever
