A full-time position for an experienced Cook/Housekeeper at a beautiful country estate near Oxford.

Working alongside a House Manager and second Housekeeper, this role has an emphasis on good family cooking with occasional dinner parties.  Duties will encompass all day-to-day housekeeping, assisting and covering the second Housekeeper on their days off.

Liaising with the Head Gardener and Gamekeeper, you will have experience in utilising produce from the estate to create fresh and healthy fare.

During an average week you will cater for the estate Owner.  The lady of the house spends much of the week away from the estate.  There are four children who currently board at school but spend occasional weekends at the estate.

Candidate Qualities

  • We are looking for an energetic team player with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • An enthusiastic Cook with a genuine interest in healthy and on-trend cooking
  • Experience working on other estates or large family houses would be a bonus
  • Be physically fit
  • Attention to detail
  • Honesty, integrity with the highest levels of discretion and an understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Hold a current full UK driving licence
  • Fluent English speaker preferable
  • Cooking qualifications not essential but the candidate will be expected to demonstrate an ability to prepare traditional British and Mediterranean dishes
  • The confident ability to cater for up to 14 guests at dinner parties
  • Up to 24 guests for shoot lunches (you will have assistance for larger events)

Duties

  • Creating fresh healthy meals for the family
  • Menu planning
  • Creating meals to dinner party standard (up to 14 guests)
  • Food purchasing and stock maintenance
  • Kitchen and food preparation hygiene
  • General cleaning and presentation of the interiors to a high standard
  • Assisting with daily cleaning and dressing of the master suite and family areas
  • Tidying and cleaning rooms, toilets and bathrooms
  • Assisting with the cleaning of unused rooms
  • Polishing of brass, silver and fine furniture
  • Watering household plants under the direction of the Head Gardener
  • Accepting and supervising deliveries
  • Assist in liaising with contractors during the House Manager's absence
  • Occasional laundry duties
  • Assisting with 4 house dogs including occasional walks etc

Remuneration

  • A very competitive salary with an employer's contributory pension.
  • Rent free ‘all found’ cottage (inclusive of fuel, water rates and tax).  This is currently a one bedroom accommodation that has scope to be converted to a two bedroom if required.
  • Hours - The normal estate hours are 8 hrs per day, 5 days per week but by the very nature of estate life, the role occasionally incurs greater hours and so some flexibility is required.  Any additional hours are taken in lieu.  This position requires a ‘split shift’ when the Owner is in residence to cover supper service.
  • Holiday - commencing at 21 days per annum inclusive of bank holidays which, if worked, will be taken as time off in lieu.
