Live-in Housekeeper
Location: Kensington, London
Start Date: 30 days’ notice
Salary: Dependent on experience
Accommodation: Private one-bedroom flat (including kitchen, living room, and bathroom)
Principal: Single gentleman 
Working Days: Monday to Friday (with Sunday evening arrival support required)

Role Overview

An experienced and highly organised Live-in Housekeeper is sought for a refined private residence in Kensington. This role requires a candidate with exceptional attention to detail, particularly in wardrobe management and garment care, alongside maintaining immaculate household standards and providing occasional simple cooking.

Key Responsibilities
1. Wardrobe Management (Core Focus)

  • Maintain the principal’s wardrobe to an exceptional standard
  • Regularly inspect garments for wear, damage, or moth activity
  • Ensure correct seasonal storage using protective covers and deterrents
  • Rotate, air, and organise clothing appropriately
  • Arrange repairs (buttons, hems, knitwear, minor damage)
  • Oversee all laundry and dry cleaning, maintaining accurate records
  • Ensure shoes are cleaned, polished, and stored correctly
  • Keep wardrobe meticulously organised by category

Seasonal Duties:

  • Conduct full wardrobe reviews every 2–3 months
  • Refresh moth prevention measures
  • Manage seasonal wardrobe transitions

2. Housekeeping (Immaculate Standards)

  • Maintain all areas of the home to a consistently high standard
  • Ensure bedrooms and bathrooms are presented impeccably
  • Make beds with fresh linens and maintain daily presentation
  • Carry out regular deep cleaning and ongoing upkeep
  • Refresh towels and linens as required
  • Uphold overall organisation and presentation across the residence

3. Weekly Routine

Sunday Evening:

  • Welcome the principal on return from the country
  • Assist with unpacking and organising belongings
  • Arrange laundry and restore wardrobe order
  • Prepare bedroom (fresh linens, tidy surfaces, water provided)

Monday to Thursday:

Morning (7:00am – 9:00am):

  • Prepare a simple breakfast (e.g. fruit, eggs, beverages)
  • Clean and reset the kitchen

Afternoon:

  • Light refresh of bedroom and bathroom
  • Maintain order in living spaces
  • Provide occasional tea service

Thursday:

  • Assist with packing (if required)
  • Prepare garments for travel
  • Strip bed and complete full clean
  • Organise laundry and reset wardrobe

4. Laundry & Simple Cooking

  • Manage all personal laundry and dry cleaning
  • Keep accurate track of items sent and returned
  • Prepare simple, healthy meals on occasion

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience within a private household
  • Strong expertise in wardrobe management and garment care
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high housekeeping standards
  • Calm, cheerful, and proactive in approach
  • Highly organised, discreet, and reliable
  • Able to work independently and anticipate the principal’s needs
  • A true stickler for detail

Household Details

  • Large three-storey residence
  • One main bedroom, three bathrooms
  • Multiple reception rooms including sitting room, drawing room, dining room, and study
  • No additional household staff (supported by a full-time driver and part-time gardener)

Additional Information

  • The principal spends mid-December to early March in South America; the candidate is encouraged to take annual leave during this period
  • The principal resides at a country house most weekends
  • No childcare duties required
  • No driving required
