Our client is seeking a professional Houseman/Butler to work at a substantial country house in the Cotswolds. The job involves a five-day work week, including weekends. During term time, the client will divide their time between the Cotswolds and London. During school holidays, they will be based at the house.

  • Teamwork is an essential part of the job. You will need to work as a team with the daily Housekeeper, the Gardeners, and any temporary staff.
  • You will be required to provide polished Butler service with meeting and greeting people at the door, serving tea, drinks, dinner etc for formal and informal occasions. Knowledge of silverware, glassware etc.
  • Also, welcoming house guests, helping with carrying their luggage into house, parking their car in a more suitable place, etc.
  • Cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, polishing, and caring after furniture, antiques, silver and glassware. Putting together inventories and keeping track of these. Daily, the role involves maintaining the living rooms and their contents clean and tidy so that they are always immaculately presented.
  • You will be able to use one of the client's cars for work purposes. Driving involves driving to and from dinner parties, regular food shopping, errands etc as well as the occasional London and airport runs.
  • You will be responsible for looking after the cars and making sure they are always well presented for the client, cleaning and washing them internally and externally on a regular basis and making sure they are in good working order.
  • Looking after the appliances throughout the house, replacing light bulbs, keeping an eye on plumbing and boiler systems, laying fires and cleaning fireplaces, ordering fire logs, etc. Cleaning windows internally on a regular basis.
  • Liaising with Relevant Specialist Professionals - such as plumbers, electricians, pool services, window cleaners, IT experts, etc when necessary.
  • Deliveries - You will also be responsible for taking deliveries at the house. These may not always be at entirely convenient times – and nor are the clients in control of this.
  • Bins - Putting garbage out for collection days and disposing of any other waste appropriately.
  • The Drive - You will be responsible for looking after the drive and the gravelled areas throughout the property. This involves regularly raking and keeping the drive level, clean, tidy, and free of leaves and debris.
  • Outdoor Furniture - You will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the outdoor furniture throughout the property, including the main terrace, the rose garden areas and the swimming pool area - so that it is ready for use at any time, without prior notice. This includes weather proofing it and organising its storage during winter months.
  • Swimming Pool and Tennis Courts - You will be responsible for the regular chemical maintenance of the swimming pool, as well as keeping it clean and free of leaves and debris. You will also be responsible for raking the tennis court and keeping it clean, tidy and free of leaves and debris.
  • Security is an essential part of the job and involves being responsible for the security of the house – locking up, closing windows in the evening, ensuring the alarm is set when leaving the property.

You will be off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Wednesdays and occasional weekends when the family go away. 8 hour split shift with an afternoon break. However, working hours may be longer when the family are entertaining or have people staying. You will be given back the time, either in the following days or by agreeing to shorter working days when the family is away.

28 days leave per year, including public holidays. The family tends to be at the house during Bank Holidays so you will be asked to work on the actual days and take these at other times.

The client will provide you with a separate furnished studio accommodation - a furnished studio flat with separate kitchen/dining area, separate snug and shower room, separate to the main house. Partners are welcome to stay.  They will also provide free broadband and take care of heating and electricity bills, phone line rental and the council tax. You will be able to use one of the cars for work purposes.

A salary is on offer of £30,000-£35,000 pa
