Live-in or Live-out Houseman / Cook

Schedule: Full-time with flexibility to meet the family’s needs; includes some weekends, evenings, and travel when the family is in residence

We are seeking a highly capable Houseman / Cook with exceptionally strong cooking and housekeeping skills to support the day-to-day running and presentation of their private residences. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is confident in both high-standard household care and family-style private cooking.

This position would suit a professional who takes pride in immaculate homes, enjoys cooking regularly for a household and guests, and understands the expectations of working within a luxury private environment.

The Properties

East Sussex Estate

• Main House: 10 bedrooms, 7 reception rooms, gym, chef’s kitchen, cinema room, 10 bathrooms, 19 toilets, boot room, terraces, and balconies
• Guest House: 7 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 1 reception room, 2 kitchens
• Cottage: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

London Property (Roehampton)

• Staff apartments
• Garage and storage areas

Key Responsibilities

Housekeeping & Estate Presentation

• Maintaining exceptionally high housekeeping standards across all residences
• Daily cleaning including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms, windows, and fine surfaces
• Care of delicate materials, furnishings, and finishes
• Cleaning and maintaining outdoor furniture, terraces, and BBQ areas

When the family is in residence:

• Bed linen and towel changes
• Laundry and ironing to a high standard, including fine fabrics
• Packing and unpacking
• Ensuring all rooms are immaculate, organised, and guest-ready
• End-of-tenancy deep cleans and full linen changes for the guest house when rented

Cooking & Kitchen Management (Essential Skillset)

• Confidently preparing high-quality meals on a regular basis for the family and guests (often 10+ people)
• Menu planning with the ability to cater to preferences and dietary needs
• Grocery shopping and stock management
• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner preparation and service when required
• Maintaining a clean, organised, and well-run kitchen at all times

Household & Property Support

• Running errands and managing household inventories
• Liaising with contractors and overseeing maintenance works
• Supporting household projects and ensuring smooth daily operations

Driving & Vehicle Care

• Airport transfers and general driving duties
• Ensuring all vehicles are clean, well-presented, and maintained

London Property & Staff Accommodation

• Maintaining staff apartments, garage, and storage areas
• Travel to London approximately once every two weeks to manage accommodation

Travel Support

• Occasional travel with the family as required, including support with the children

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience combining both cooking and high-level housekeeping within a private household or estate
• Confident, capable cook with experience preparing meals for families and guests
• Exceptionally strong housekeeping skills with an eye for detail
• Proactive, organised, and able to work independently
• Discreet, professional, and trustworthy
• Flexible and adaptable to the needs of a private family
• Full UK driving licence
• Comfortable with long hours when required, including weekends and travel
