Job Summary:

A professional Couple is required within a beautiful, high-end estate in Devon. Looking for a service-oriented Domestic Couple to manage a small team of staff, and be the friendly face for their high-profile clientele.

The family are flexible on how you share the duties, but the three main areas that need covering are house management, service, and cooking. You will also oversee a team of Housekeepers who are responsible for the majority of cleaning, but you will still need to maintain a hands-on approach.

The roles are for a Cook/House Manager and Butler/House Manager. The house is home to the principals, who welcome clients throughout the year. The emphasis is on creating a refined, individual, and luxury experience for all clients and visitors.

Both roles will be key to managing the smooth running of the property, including general upkeep and security, whilst providing a quality service to the principals and guests.

You will both be part of a small, friendly, and collaborative team who are invested in the daily and long-term running of the Estate.

You will be required to work weekends, evenings, and on occasion 6 days a week when the Estate is at its busiest. The principals are keen to ensure a healthy work/life balance and see that these hours will level out over the course of the year. A two-bedroom apartment is provided in the house, with own private driveway.

Duties:

Cooking
During periods where there are no guests, you will prepare family meals. This role encompasses regular dinner parties and event cooking; as such, the candidate for this role will need to be a passionate Cook. Assistance is available within the kitchen in the form of the Housekeepers, and an external Chef is available for larger events. Training can also be given.

Housekeeping
You will manage a team of Housekeepers, ensuring the property is kept to an excellent standard. A hands-on approach is a must; however, when guests are in situ, cooking will be the priority. The property is Grade 1 listed with various high-end and antique furnishings requiring care and attention.

House Manager
Focusing on the day-to-day running of the household, maintaining a keen eye for detail for any discrepancies and liaising with the on-site maintenance team for fixes, while taking a proactive approach to simple tasks such as changing light bulbs. As a live-in member of staff, security will be a priority.

Service
When guests are in residence, you will adopt a front-of-house role, politely and respectfully engaging with them, providing a warm welcome, serving drinks, managing the cellar, and generally ensuring their stay is an enjoyable one.

Candidate requirements:

This is an opportunity for a Couple with existing experience working within historic households and private households, but will consider those with similar experience if they can demonstrate a strong desire to excel in the above areas. At least one side needs to be a confident Cook, and both need to be discreet yet personable, flexible in their approach, and comfortable around high-net worth guests. Preferably both candidates will be able to drive. You will need to be dog friendly as you will need to look after the principal’s family Labradors when they are away.

• A lovely self-contained, 2-bed apartment within the main residence, accessed by own private entrance. Separate lounge, kitchen and private driveway.
• Car provided for work purposes.
• A small pet will be welcome, unfortunately, children cannot be accommodated.
