Overview

A warm and busy professional couple based in Charlton are seeking a proactive, organised, and trustworthy Housekeeper / Household Assistant to support the smooth running of their home.

This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for a candidate who enjoys taking ownership, working independently, and making a meaningful difference to a household. The position combines hands-on housekeeping, family-style cooking, and light household administration.

The couple also support close family members living nearby, including elderly relatives with dementia. As part of the role, there may be occasional visits to a nearby family property, adding a meaningful and community-focused element to the position.

Key Responsibilities

Housekeeping & Domestic Duties

  • General cleaning and upkeep of a 1-bedroom flat
  • Weekly bed linen changes
  • Laundry, ironing, and wardrobe care
  • Maintaining a consistently clean, tidy, and organised home
  • Periodic deep cleaning tasks (e.g. oven, fridge, windows)

Cooking & Food Management

  • Preparing 2–4 home-cooked meals per week
  • Batch cooking (4–6 portions) for family members
  • Weekly meal planning
  • Grocery shopping and kitchen organisation
  • Occasional preparation for small dinner gatherings (6–8 guests)

Household Organisation

  • Organising cupboards, wardrobes, and storage areas
  • Managing and reducing household clutter
  • Coordinating occasional charity shop drop-offs

Household Administration

  • Monitoring and organising post and correspondence
  • Booking appointments (household and family-related)
  • Supporting with filing and maintaining simple systems
  • Occasional research/booking of social activities (e.g. restaurants, theatre)

Shopping & Household Supplies

  • Monitoring and replenishing household items (cleaning products, toiletries, etc.)
  • Managing online orders where required

Additional (occasional/optional)

  • Visiting a nearby family property (within 1 mile) to assist with light tasks such as food drop-offs, shopping, or post organisation
  • Occasional pre-agreed working day at the family property
  • Supporting with preparation for occasional weekend hosting (approx. once per month)

Working Hours & Schedule

  • 20–25 hours per week, typically across Monday–Friday
  • The working schedule offers flexibility, and exact hours can be agreed and adapted over time to suit both the candidate and the household
  • The role is designed so that the majority of duties are carried out while the principals are out of residence, allowing the candidate to work independently and take full ownership of their workload in a calm environment
  • The principals are generally out of the home during standard working hours
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing their time and working autonomously

Flexibility

  • Some flexibility with start and finish times may be required depending on household needs
  • Occasional slightly later finishes may be requested by prior arrangement
  • Occasional weekend support (approximately once per month) for entertaining, by prior arrangement

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar housekeeping or household assistant role
  • Confident home cook (simple, nutritious, family-style meals)
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Proactive and able to work independently
  • Trustworthy, discreet, and reliable
  • Friendly, adaptable, and solutions-focused
  • Full UK driving licence preferred but not essential

Personality Fit
The ideal candidate will be warm, calm, and quietly efficient, with a “no job too small” attitude. Someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys creating a well-run, welcoming home.
